Upon entering the library now you will come through a set of gates. This is our new RFID security and inventory system from Bibliotheca. Over the last three months staff and volunteers placed security tags in all books and DVDs. Security is protecting the items inside the building and security is removed when you check items out and exit through the gates. The staff will also be able to quickly check the shelves for missing or mis-shelved books, plus do an accurate count of visitors to the building. Gates are installed on both entrances to the library. Thanks to all our volunteers who put in many hours tagging some 50,000 items.
Plans for building a new parking lot with 26 spaces on the River Road side of the library are on hold for now but we anticipate having the new parking lot completed by mid-August. The existing parking lot along 23rd St. will be resealed and 5 more handicap spots, including space for a van, added at the same time. The entrance by River Road will be opened when the parking lot is completed.
